How to Register Domestic Aircraft
When it comes to regular aircraft registration, it’s always good to remember that the aeroplane in question can’t have been previously registered. For initial registration, this needs to be a domestic aircraft that has no active registration with Transport Canada. In these cases, you will need to submit the application available here on our website, which will require you to fill out the initial registration form you will find on our home page. This will involve inputting all the relevant information about the aircraft, including the manufacturer, the model, and the serial number, as well as your personal information as an applicant. How to Register Foreign Aircraft
Now, if you are registering imported aircraft in Canada, the process is going to be different. This process will apply whenever the aeroplane in question wasn’t built by a Canadian manufacturer and you are purchasing it, either used or new, while abroad. You might have imported the aircraft through a certified retailer or bought it used from a foreign proprietor. Either way, you want to make sure that you register it using the form that is specific to foreign-built aeroplanes. The application in and of itself is going to be very similar to that of the initial registration, but it will also involve showing proof that the aircraft’s prior registration abroad was formally deleted and that it satisfies the Canadian requirements for airworthiness. You will also need to provide proof of ownership, be that a bill of sale, a lease agreement, or something along those lines.
