Initial Aircraft Registration Canadian and Foreign Aircraft

initial aircraft registration

The process to register your aircraft will be fairly simple. You have to gather a few documents, fill out a few forms, and submit them all to Transport Canada, all of which you can do through our platform here at the National Aviation Registration. However, the initial aircraft registration process will differ slightly when the aeroplane that you are registering is imported. Since these procedures can often become confusing amidst getting all the right paperwork and submitting it accordingly, we can provide you with a quick guide on what the differences are between registering Canadian aircraft and registering imported ones.

How to Register Domestic Aircraft

When it comes to regular aircraft registration, it’s always good to remember that the aeroplane in question can’t have been previously registered. For initial registration, this needs to be a domestic aircraft that has no active registration with Transport Canada. In these cases, you will need to submit the application available here on our website, which will require you to fill out the initial registration form you will find on our home page. This will involve inputting all the relevant information about the aircraft, including the manufacturer, the model, and the serial number, as well as your personal information as an applicant. Don’t worry, our site is continuously protected with SSL encryption meant to safeguard your personal information. Once you are done with the information, all you will need to do is pay for the application fee and your registration will have been submitted.

How to Register Foreign Aircraft

Now, if you are registering imported aircraft in Canada, the process is going to be different. This process will apply whenever the aeroplane in question wasn’t built by a Canadian manufacturer and you are purchasing it, either used or new, while abroad. You might have imported the aircraft through a certified retailer or bought it used from a foreign proprietor. Either way, you want to make sure that you register it using the form that is specific to foreign-built aeroplanes. The application in and of itself is going to be very similar to that of the initial registration, but it will also involve showing proof that the aircraft’s prior registration abroad was formally deleted and that it satisfies the Canadian requirements for airworthiness. You will also need to provide proof of ownership, be that a bill of sale, a lease agreement, or something along those lines.

Initial Aircraft Registration

Are you purchasing your aeroplane directly from a Canadian manufacturer? Or are you buying it used from a foreign owner? Either way, you are going to need to register it with Transport Canada in order to be able to fly it in Canadian airspace, which will require you to submit some forms. We at the National Aviation Registration can guide you through all these processes and provide you with all the necessary forms to do so.
